Moving can be a pain, but using
Lone Star Self Storage can lessen it.
Now that you know that you’ll be moving house, the next thing you’ll need to do is figure out whether you’ll want to do it yourself or hire professionals. If you go with the DIY option, you’ll save money. But if you go with a moving company, you’ll need to shop around to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
A good rule of thumb is to talk with at least three or four professional movers before you choose a company to work with. When you speak with them, they will typically give you one of three types of moving estimates:
With this kind of estimate, your moving costs may increase or decrease depending on the circumstances. To come up with the estimate, a moving company will first go to your home to evaluate what exactly you need to have moved. They will then give you an approximate estimate, with the understanding that the actual amount will be determined on the actual day you move.
The cost can then go up or down, depending on how much your belongings weigh. This can mean a great deal for you because you’re really only paying for what you are moving. But you will need to give your movers accurate information about what you want moved so you can get an estimate that’s as close to the actual weight as possible.
As with a non-binding estimate, the moving company will send an agent out to your home to see what has to be moved. However, the amount that person comes up with will be the amount that you’ll be paying. Even if you end up having less to move then you thought, you’ll still have to pay this price. The one advantage is that you will have figures to work with ahead of time. If you choose this option, though, be sure to carefully go over the credentials of the moving company in question.
This type of estimate may be your best option if you need to watch your moving budget closely. The moving company will give you a quote and then guarantee that you will not pay more and could potentially pay less if the items you’re looking to move weigh less than the original estimate.
